| MortScript 4.3b11 (07/29/2009, 11:46 AM) |
Seems like a giant leap from b2 to b11, but honestly, I just missed to update the public download here...
Usually, I first publish betas in the forum, and if no major problems occur, they're moved to the public download section. (So "forum betas" are sometimes more like alphas...)
The new MortScript beta became quite useable with b9, I forgot to update the site since then. Sorry for that...
Well, have fun testing. There are some pretty nice new features.
| I aten't ded (12/05/2008, 10:00 PM) |
Yeah, I know, I'm a bit slow with updates recently. Somehow, when I wasn't missing free time, all too often I was missing motivation (no, that's not begging for donations) to struggly with the pitfalls of programming after I struggled with them in my job before. And this even though there's currently no girl friend that threadens me when I'd spend more time on my PC than with her. (But admitted, she'd probably wouldn't need to threaden me... ;))
Nontheless, some updates managed to become finished within the last few weeks.
The latest beta (3.31b77) of MortPlayer finally is in the official download section. The betas 74 and 75, which were pretty stable, lurched around in the forum for all too long. b76 already was in the proper download page, I just missed to mention it here, and b77 is only a minor update (though i think esp. those using the MortVista skin will like like). Biggest modifications are a better gesture support (like swipe to right for next track) and a slightly modified skin system that supports the new screen resolutions (320x320, 240x400, 480x800, etc.). Most of the old skins are still suporrted and even fixed to the screen format as good as possible - but this also has the side effect that skins which made use of the old version's ignorace to the actual screen size (like the few skins for Omnia) aren't displayed correctly anymore.
MortButtons 2.6 was released some time ago. It now supports contacts incl. caller image and categories, has pretty smooth transition animations (at least on most devices...), and a small Today plugin to invoke the menus.
MortRing now also supports the new screen resolutions (320x320 not tested so for, but I think it should be OK).
Compared to 0.991, which was still on this page, it also updates the contact ringtones on WM5+ devices, making the ringtones much more reliable on those devices. If you wonder why to use it at all in that case: It also updates contacts according to their categories. And you can set special SMS signals. Compared to 0.993, some bugs in the SMS filter dialog were fixed.
MortScript still is in need of my attention... I think there'll be a release in January if all goes well.

New Updates
MortPlayer now has some small, but nice, new features and several bugs were fixed.
Among others, you can drag lists with your finger ("flick scrolling" like on iPhone is possible, too), the next track can be defined without resorting the playlist, settings can be saved and restored, setting up Favorites is far more easy for the most common usage, there's a new default skin, plugins for WMA and AAC are included in installation, etc.
Only pause during a phone call still seems to cause troubles on some devices. I'm afraid I'm not albe to fix this completely, because MortPlayer (unlike WMP) can't be customized from the manufacturers to the special handlings of their devices, and what helps on one devices causes another to crash...
But still it's a definite Release Canditate. Maybe one or the other small feature will be included until the release, but priority is currently to prepare the release, which includes nasty "trifle" like writing an updated manual (which is currently about half ready)...
The new MortScript beta offers only quite small changes so far, the bigger things (like a status window displaying what's going on currently) I plan to implement after MortPlayer's finally released. But maybe esp. developers like "small" changes Include() or line numbers in error messages. And users might try whether the reworked SendKeys makes simulated key input faster and more reliable or causes trouble on their devices.
Server troubles
As you might have notices, my server's causing trouble sometimes. It seems like 512MB RAM is not enough to serve a few simple PHP pages with MySQL access (same for main pages and forum), at least with the server's configuration...
Since I'd like to avoid having to update a (virtual) root server all the time, but didn't find a hoster offering managed webservers with subversion support, in a first go the sources
(MortPlayer, MortScript, MortTools und demnächst auch MortSetup) will be moved to a specialized subversion hoster. This also has some advantages like receiving an eMail when somebody commited changes and more easy user management. However, it seems like it's not possible for users to change their password themselves.
The repositories will be available at
http://mort.svnrepository.com/svn/mort or via
https://secure2.svnrepository.com/s_mort/mort within the next few days, the existing logins will be migrated (as soon as the old server works stable enough to read them...).
This site will probably be moved to a new server during february, but so far I didn't decide to which provider...| MortButtons 2.5 (12/04/2007, 06:48 PM) |
MortButtons 2.5 made it to release.
There are many new features, like finger gestures, alpha channel support, own backgrounds, improved speed, ...
| MortScript 4.1, MortButtons 2.42 (beta) (10/31/2007, 01:32 PM) |
The new version 4.1 of MortScript is now released. Esp. for advanced programmers using sub functions, there are interesting improvements, but there are several other improvements, too. E.g. some bug fixes and (in most cases) a better performance. Just take a look into the MortScript section...
For MortButtons 2.42 there's a new beta (currently b11), which offers some new detail improvements (esp. regarding icon selection) and should be far more stable and faster than the previous betas. I hope the sporadic crashes which occurred with older betas now are fixed...
You find it in the corresponding download section - or just clic here.| What's up... (09/04/2007, 01:26 PM) |
A little update to the current progress...
MortScript: I think the next update is quite close to release, I just wait for some more beta feedbacks and still have to update the German manual. Unless some complicated errors appear, I'm quite positive V4.1 will be released in the second half of September.
MortButtons: The current beta is quite stable, but sometimes the program just closes without a proper error message. I'm not able to reproduce the crash on purpose, so I'm a bit clueless where to start searching. If you can give me any hints, just send me a mail...
MortPlayer: I think the next beta will come soon. I'm currently alpha testing a version with better favorite skip support for audio books (you can choose if/how audio books are included when favorites are skipped manually or by changer mode) and options if/when playback should be resumed after a phone call. I want to add an easy "beginners" favorite dialog (just one directory for each music and audio books, subfolders are included of course) and an "autosave" for the current position (e.g. every 30 seconds), too, but I'm not sure whether I find time for that before I'm off to russia...
Russia: I'm off to Moscow (and Krasnogrorsk) to discover who's that "FFC" in the forum ;) - and of course simple tourist curiosity... If you live in the vicinity of Moscow and want to meet me, too, just mail me (contact form or privat message in forum), I'll be there from 9/11 to 9/17.

Yes, long time no news - at least here, there's been some in the forum...
First of all, in case you didn't notice, there are new beta versions of MortButtons (also updated and uploaded a skinning manual) and MortScript.
MortButtons didn't get many new features as such, but better support of buttons (like "OK" to leave it) and images (e.g. transparency/alpha channel support for skins, images in PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP and ICO format as icon replacement).
MortScript got an improved parser (should be faster in many cases), support of local variables and functions, multi level arrays, several new functions, better PNA compatibility, some bugfixes, and so on.
And yes, MortPlayer's been abandoned for quite a while, I hope to get to it soon. MortPlayer's got the disadvantage it's become a very complex product, so I can't just add some small features as easy as with my other projects. Additionally, it utilizes many system near functions, which many new manufacturers don't seem to care about supporting correctly anymore. So, sorry if some features don't work on your device, but Microsoft doesn't enforce unified support of such important features like application button support, screen toggle, backlight and volume control, A2DP/AVRCP support, and so on. And with every new device it gets worse and drivers become even more buggy (the device is sold until you realize it one day, so who cares whether you're able to use all features?).
I also finally got around to upload the MortPlayer sources. You need a subversion client like Tortoise, then check out the source from
Repository location: svn://sto-helit.de/MortPlayer/trunk
Login: guest
Password: guest
Note this is just read only access, if you want to commit changes, please write me your desired login and password (with the current solution, I have no way to let it enter you, so please don't use one you don't like to share with me...).
Sources are also available for some basic libraries I use for other applications (and plan to use in MortPlayer) at svn://sto-helit.de/MortTools/trunk (just read only, because this is too sensitive for uncontrolled changes, but you're free to use the code and libraries for your own projects), and MortScript (login on request) at svn://sto-helit/MortScript/trunk, the latter with a limited license: You're free to use concepts and smaller parts of the code in
your programs (e.g. the variables hashmap, how to get the current
process, and such), but you may notuse it as template for an own interpreter or expression parser. (Of
course you may use the general concept, I don't think it's something
really new anyway, but I don't wan't any derivates spreading about and cause confusion and incompatibilities.)
Finally, I wanted you to know MortScript and MortPlayer are nominees at PocketPC Magazine's 2007 Best Software Award.
(I wonder when MortButtons will make it. Spb Mobile Shell brought some notice to this concept. I just wonder why everyone's so exited about Spb Menu when MortButtons does similar things and much more since several years...)
| Server administration, MortScript development (03/26/2007, 12:47 PM) |
On March, 31st at 0:00 CEST, there's some administration stuff done by my provider, so it might be the server's not reachable for a while. So don't worry, sto-helit.de remains alive... ;)
After releasing the stable 4.0, I started some major internal changes in MortScript, allowing e.g. better array handling and local variables. Please visit the forum if you're interested in a test version. But be warned, it's still alpha state and might currently have some compatibility troubles...
| MortScript 4.0 and MortButtons 2.41 released (03/12/2007, 12:26 PM) |
Well, it's been about time for some new releases, so here they are...
Regarding MortScript, the release version only fixes some minor bugs compared to RC11. MortScript's been quite stable since several versions, and of course still has potential to be improved. So I thought it'd be a good thing to have a version where script writers don't have to tell their script users to install some "test version" of the interpreter.
The release version of MortButtons is identical to RC2, so you don't need to update if you installed RC2. Compared to V2.4, most changes regard optics (240x240 optimized dialogs, improved skin support) and bugfixes (esp. regarding closing programs).
| Further progress... (03/04/2007, 12:46 PM) |
Still not as fast as I wished for, but at least there's some progress...
As you probably noticed, the old site is no longer available. On www.sto-helit.de, now there's the same content as on mort.sto-helit.de. In the server stats there were still too many visits to the old pages for my taste - it seems like due to many direct links, the new pages often weren't noticed at all.
In detail:
MortButtons is complete, and the next update (V2.41), which offers mostly small bugfixes and optical improvements (e.g. transparency for bitmaps), is close to release.
MortScript with the current RC10 is soon to be released, too. Only some minor issues (e.g. with the new BigMessage) seems to have to be fixed...
MortPlayer is still a bit problematic. On most devices, it runs fine, but on some, there are still troubles with device buttons, phone calls, and/or the WMP emulation (BT headsets, VoiceCommand and such).| On it goes... (01/20/2007, 11:54 AM) |
Still slower than I indented, but at least some progresses...
MortButtons 2.4 is released and almost complete on this site. Only the FAQ is still missing. (The manual now is available)
MortScript 4.0 reached RC7 and is quite close to release. Only some minor improvements and some troubles with serial port access need to be done. There are also some examples to download.
For MortPlayer, I plan a new RC during the upcoming week. It'll fix some annoying small bugs. However, it'll still take some time to add the skins to the new download section.
| MortButtons, small PPC tools (01/11/2007, 06:14 PM) |
The MortButtons section is almost done - only manual and FAQ are missing. Well, and the release. V2.4b4 is quite stable, but I prefer to wait a bit whether any new errors come up...
"Small PPC tools" is a new section containing some small helpers. It links to the download section, because I think the descriptions there should be enough. Though MortRing might be a canditate for an own section. We'll see...
| New site (01/03/2007, 05:54 PM) |
As you might have noticed, there are some troubles with www.sto-helit.de - more about that on the index page of that site.
Here's the "developer center" for the new site. The technique is already about 95% finished, but it'll need some time to migrate all the data, esp. all the MortPlayer skins. For some entries, I also don't want to simply copy the old stuff, because my own code allows me do to things a bit different - as you might have noticed with the language selection...
Being at that, if your browser is configured to show pages in German, the default language should be German, otherwise English.
Already working: Main page, News (as you see ;)), Downloads (but quite few contents), Contact form (with CAPTCHA), Guestbook (which just contains Frappr as Flash...), and the good old forum. I try to finish the MortButtons and MortScript entries asap with the current RC resp. beta states, because I don't like to port all that unnecessary old stuff from the old site, and I hope they're quite soon to be released. For example, I think PDF documentations are better for you and me - no hazzles with different formattings on different browsers/resolutions, nice and easy to print, ...
